We will practice various techniques for painting realistic skies, water and trees, aloung with drawing and understanding composition which will underpin this course.  We will also explore different colour palettes to create the atmospheric settings of this landscape that have inspired Constable and modern artists alike.

Saturday 30th - Saturday 6th November
John Lowry
Towards the Abstract. Abstract painting follows the same rules and concepts as realistic painting but relies on the imagination rather than the simple copying of what is there. We study the tools of the abstraction and the approaches of successful abstract artistsand we adopt those we favour into our own practice to produce startling images lying somewhere between the realistic and the abstract. John favours Pastel for abstract work because it is infinitely flexible - but the course applies equally to other media

The beauty of Pastel.  Colour and tone expressed through the Pastel Medium
Studio sessions. Pastel as a colourist medium.  A slightly more abstract attitude to pastel, looking at the nude in terms of pastel colour, interspersed with decorative still life influenced by richly coloured fabrics.
